NEWPORT, Carteret County - The National Weather Service has issued another high rip current alert for the entire North Carolina coast on Wednesday.
The NWS issued a similar warning Tuesday as Hurricane Gert is churning up the waters off our coast. Although the hurricane isn't expected to make landfall anywhere in the United States, the water conditions created by the storm will keep the rip current in effect. You can also expect to see increased waves and bigger ones as the storm passes.
Gert could form into a Category 2 hurricane before it continues its move north-northeast away from the US.
The rip current forecast for Thursday is moderate north of Cape Lookout and low for south of Cape Lookout.
