KINSTON, Lenoir County - A portion of a highway near Kinston remains closed as rising flood waters continue to plague the area.
A section of N.C. Highway 11 between Kinston and Pink Hill is closed because of flood waters from the Neuse River. The Neuse hit major flood stage on Tuesday as a result of last week's heavy rains.
The National Weather Service forecasts the river will crest Thursday at 21.8 feet, down a foot from earlier predictions. After rains from Hurricane Matthew, the Neuse crested at 28.3 feet.

Emergency Services Director Roger Dail says while the crest forecast has changed, people should remain vigilant. Some businesses have taken preparations and evacuated, while several homes in flood prone areas are also surrounded by water.
