"The Blitz": Week 17, State Championships, December 14th; 1A Final
Kenton Braswell ran for 150 yards and two touchdowns Saturday to help Murphy hold off Plymouth 35-34 in the Class 1-A North Carolina High School Athletic Association championship.
Braswell scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 13-yard run with 4:56 left for the Bulldogs (13-3) and was named the game's most valuable player.
Plymouth (14-1) made a late push to tie it when Malik Webb connected with Demarkus Price for a 21-yard touchdown with 36 seconds left. But Murphy's defense stopped Demetrius Davis' rush for the 2-point conversion to secure the victory.
Deion Johnson added 112 yards rushing and a score for Murphy, which won its seventh championship and avenged last year's 20-15 title-game loss to Plymouth. The Bulldogs finished with 364 yards in their fourth straight finals appearance.
Davis and Webb each ran for touchdowns to lead the Vikings, who were going for their third state title.
