Rivera: Panthers to rely on young CBs this season

CHARLOTTE, MECKLENBURG COUNTY -

Panthers coach Ron Rivera still hasn't decided who'll start at cornerback Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks in the season opener.

The only thing that's guaranteed is it will be a young, inexperienced player.

Carolina's cornerback position was thrown into a state of flux Saturday when the team released veteran Drayton Florence, who'd been working with the starters for most of the preseason.

Rivera says the decision was made because he wanted to give young cornerbacks Josh Thomas and Josh Norman a chance to develop into long-term starters.

Rivera says "they're both good solid young football players who are getting better and better and they need to get on the football field."

Rivera says he'll wait until at least Wednesday to make a decision on who'll start against the Seahawks.
