DURHAM - Three-time NGCA All-America and reigning National Player of the Year Lindy Duncan has been tabbed the No. 1 player to watch in 2012-13 for NCAA Division I Women's Golf by Golf World.
Duncan will lead a fifth-ranked Blue Devil team that returns all six letter winners from a year ago and won their 17th ACC Championship.
On the top 10 list, Duncan was No. 1 followed by Stephanie Meadow (Alabama), Erynne Lee (UCLA), Chirapat Jao-Janvanil (Oklahoma), Amy Anderson (N.D. State), Sophia Popov (SUC), Tiffany Lua (UCLA), Erica Popson (Tennessee), Laura Gonzalez-Escallon (Purdue) and Emily Tubert (Arkansas).
Blue Devil incoming freshman Celine Boutier was selected to the "Best of the Rest" listing as well. A product of Montrouge, France, Boutier won the 2012 European Ladies Amateur and advanced to the third round of match play at the U.S. Women's Amateur over the summer.
She was a 2011 Rolex Junior First Team All-America and also won the 2012 Internationaux De France Juniors.
Duncan, a senior from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., registered an impressive 2011-12 campaign in which she garnered PING NGCA National Player of the Year, Golfstat Cup winner, ACC Player of the Year and NGCA First Team All-America, while hosting a staggering 71.07 stroke average.
Duncan collected four wins last season at the Mason Rudolph Fall Preview, Northrop Grumman Challenge, Bryan National Collegiate and the ACC Championship. She also earned 10 top-10s finishes in 10 starts.
At the 2012 NCAA Championship, Duncan finished tied for sixth with rounds of 70, 75, 75, and 70 for a total of 290. The sixth place finish was Duncan's second straight top 10 finish in the NCAA Championship.
Entering the 2012-13 season, Duncan has the potential to break a number of Duke career records. Duncan currently owns a 72.17 career average and if she is able to produce another season like she did a year ago, she will be able to go down in the record books as the career leader in stroke average.
Duncan is currently trailing only Amanda Blumenherst, who has a 71.67 career stroke average.
In addition, Duncan is currently tied for fifth in wins (6), fifth in top 10 finishes (25), tied second in even or under par rounds (55), tied seventh in top five finishes (15), eighth in top 20 finishes (30) and enters the year with 13 straight top eight placements.
