Duke basketball player has surgery

Redshirt freshman Marshall Plumlee will be sidelined 12-16 weeks following surgery to repair his injured left foot. The Warsaw, Ind., native suffered the injury late in the preseason and missed Duke's first nine games of the year before returning to the court.

"Marshall was having a very good preseason before suffering the injury last year," said head coach Mike Krzyzewski. "The injury set him back but we expect him to make a full recovery and be a key contributor for us next season."

Plumlee saw limited action last season while dealing with the foot injury. The 6-11, 235-pound center played in 19 games averaging 0.1 points and 0.6 rebounds per game. Plumlee, a McDonald's All-America in 2011, is one of three returning post players for the Blue Devils heading into the 2013-14 season.

The surgery was successfully performed Tuesday at the Duke Ambulatory Surgery Center by Dr. James Nunley.
