Edrice "Bam" Adebayo is now a member of the Miami Heat.
Adebayo, who is from Beaufort County and played his first three seasons at Northside in Pinetown, was selected No. 14 by the Heat in Thursday's NBA Draft. He is the third Kentucky player chosen, joining former teammates De'Aaron Fox (No. 5, Sacramento Kings) and Malik Monk (No. 11, Charlotte Hornets).
There were numerous teams who had interest in Adebayo, who declared for the NBA Draft after one season at Kentucky. When he announced he was turning pro, he was projected as a late first-round pick. But through workouts with several teams -- including the Hornets -- his draft stock rose.
He averaged 13 points, 8 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in his only season at Kentucky. He was an All-SEC Second Team selection. He also made the SEC All-Tournament Team.
“Bam was our hardest worker this season," former coach John Calipari told NBA.com. "You’re talking about a player who can guard all five positions, has more perimeter skills than people know, and someone with size and a physique that immediately translates to [to the NBA]. Bam is a great kid with a ton of upside.”
Teams like his NBA body, 7-foot-1 wingspan and the fact he's a solid rebounder. He's also developed an outside shot that made him a desirable player.
