Pirates Start Holiday Season In A Generous Way
Gave Away Hundreds Of Pounds Of Food To The Needy
The ECU women’s basketball team kicked off the holiday season in a big way.
The Pirates donated nearly 300 pounds of food to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina on Wednesday, Nov. 21, to help provide meals to those in need on Thanksgiving.
“There are so many families in need during this time of year,” Head Coach Heather Macy stated. “Our team, along with those fans who graciously donated at last weekend’s home basketball games, are just trying to do our part to help as many people in need have a nice Thanksgiving.”
The Pirates collected 212 canned food items which added up to 290 pounds and will provide 244 meals to community members in the Greenville community as well as surrounding areas.
After ECU’s drop off Wednesday morning, the Pirates hit the court to prepare for their annual Thanksgiving Tournament which will take place Saturday, Nov. 24, and Sunday, Nov. 25.
East Carolina will welcome Norfolk State, Campbell, and Appalachian State to Minges Coliseum for the tournament. ECU and Norfolk State will get the tournament started with a 2 p.m. game on Saturday, followed by a Campbell-Appalachian State match-up at 4:30 p.m.
On Sunday, Appalachian State and Norfolk State will tip-off at 2 p.m., and East Carolina and Campbell will conclude the two-day event with a 4:30 p.m. contest.
