Duke's Cook Finalist For Cousy Award
Stats Are On Pace With Several Duke Legends
Duke sophomore Quinn Cook was named a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award as one of the top point guards in the nation.
Cook is one of 20 finalists, as selected by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, and one of three ACC players on the list.
With an average of 11.4 points and 6.1 assists per game, Cook has been the director of a Duke offense that is outscoring opponents by more than 19 points per game.
A native of Washington, D.C., Cook has already posted two double-digit assist games, including a career-high 14 helpers in an 80-62 win over Wake Forest.
A 6-1, 175-pound product of Oak Hill Academy, Cook has played a key role in Duke’s 15-0 start and is coming off of a career-best 27-point, five-rebound, five-assist, four-steal outing in a 68-40 win against Clemson.
Defensively, he leads the team with 29 steals and has helped Duke hold its opponents to 60.3 points per game and a .295 (72-of-244) shooting percentage from three-point range.
Cook is on pace to become only the fifth player in school history to average at least 10.0 points and 6.0 assists per game, joining a list of Duke point guards that includes Chris Duhon, Dick Groat, Bobby Hurley and Jason Williams.
The current list of 20 finalists for the 2013 Bob Cousy Award will be narrowed to 10 players in early February and then to five players by early March.
The final five players in contention for the award will be presented to Mr. Cousy and the Hall of Fame’s selection committee.
The Hall of Fame committee is made up of top college basketball personnel including media members, head coaches, Sports Information Directors and Hall of Famers.
The winner of the 2013 Bob Cousy Award will be presented at the Hall of Fame’s Class Announcement on Championship Monday in Atlanta as part of NCAA Final Four weekend
Off to a 2-0 start in ACC play, Cook and the Blue Devils will square off against preseason ACC favorite NC State in PNC Arena on Saturday, Jan. 12, at noon. The game will air on ESPN.
