The Carteret County Falcons are looking to win a national title. The eight-and-under football team in the Cape Carteret area will play in Richmond, Virginia on Dec. 15 and 16 for the championship.
Falcons coach William Perkins reveals the secret for the team's success.
"For 8-year-old's, these kids have really come together and they listen well," said Perkins.
The coach's son, Carson, who plays running back for the team, admits their successful season is a bit unexpected.
"I'm just surprised we could make it [to the championship game]," Carson said.
"Yes, I will be nervous a little bit," said Falcons running back Bailey Kenyon. "Got to play with heart and maybe we'll make it through."
Bailey says there are plenty of reasons why their title game in Richmond will be memorable, including "being able to make friends, have teamwork, and travel around and see different places."
But the team's ultimate goal is to bring home the title.
"It'd mean a lot to me because I've never won something that big in my whole entire life," said Falcons center Andrew McClain. "It'd mean a lot. Then I could go home and call myself a winner. My grandpa would be so proud."
