A woman faces DWI and other charges for allegedly leading police on a chase, before crashing into a Havelock carpet store Wednesday morning.
According to investigators, Sarah Nicole Kronenberg was talking on her cell phone when she drove into the oncoming lane on Belltown Road. The incident happened in front of a Havelock officer, who tried to pulled the suspect over. But Kronenberg sped away into the Woodhaven subdivision, police said.
Investigators said Kronenberg was speeding and running stop signs to avoid capture. The pursuing officer lost sight of the suspect, but later spotted her on Highway 70 heading east. Other officers then joined in on the chase, police said.
Sharissa Dice was also driving on Highway 70 at the time of the incident, about 9:30 a.m.
"[The suspect's vehicle] narrowly missed me in the back," Dice said.
"I was really shaken up," she added.
When the officers got within about 150 yards of Kronenberg, she turned across the median and crashed into the Mr. Carpet store, located at 801 E. Main Street, police told NewsChannel 12.
Kronenberg was taken on a stretcher to CarolinaEast Medical Center, and later released. She is facing charges of DWI, failure to stop for blue light and siren, damage to property, and resist, obstruct and delay a law enforcement officer. Police said other charges may be pending.
Kronenberg has a 2011 DWI conviction, and a separate DWI charge that is currently in the court system.
Her court date for that charge is set for Thursday.
According to Facebook, the suspect has several children.
None of them were in the car with her Wednesday.
