NEWPORT, CARTERET COUNTY - Police say a Carteret County woman is being jailed under no bond for allegedly stabbing her husband while their children were in the home. But the husband is also facing charges for allegedly lying about what happened.
According to the Newport Police Department, 25-year-old Tiffany Tina Townsend has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
Investigators said Tiffany and her husband, 22-year-old Jeffrey Andrew Townsend, were assaulting each other inside their apartment at Campus Landing in Newport Wednesday. The couple's small children were inside the apartment at the time.
Tiffany then grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed her husband in the lower torso, police said.
Afterwards, Tiffany took Jeffrey to Carteret General Hospital, before he was transferred to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, according to investigators. Jeffrey suffered non life-threatening injuries.
Police said Jeffrey lied about what happened, telling officers he was the victim of an armed robbery and assault as he and his family were walking along Old Fashioned Way.
But investigators said that due to conflicting statements about the suspect description and the specific location of the reported crime, as well as blood evidence from the couple's apartment, officers determined that Jeffrey was not telling the truth.
Police said they have obtained warrants on Jeffrey for filing a false report and assault on a female. Those warrants will be served as soon as he gets out of the hospital, according to investigators.
His wife, Tiffany, is being jailed under no bond.
