An elderly woman has been charged after crashing into a local cupcake store, injuring four people, including a customer who was pinned against a wall.

Lt. Tim Guthrie of the Morehead City Police Department said 74-year-old Hazel Rae Mucken, of Milwaukie, Ore., has been charged with careless/reckless driving and unsafe movement.

According to Lt. Guthrie, Mucken was trying to park her vehicle in front of HappyCakes Cupcakery, located at the Morehead Crossings Shopping Center at 278-A Highway 24. But Mucken never braked and crashed into the store, Guthrie said.

The accident happened at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

According to store co-owner Amanda Diaz, three people were standing in line at the counter to order cupcakes at the time.

The vehicle crashed through the front glass and went into the counter, pinning one woman into the corner of the store, Diaz said. Another woman ended up on top of the glass door that was shoved into the building by the vehicle.

The third adult in line suffered minor injuries. In addition, a 3-year-old girl in the store suffered a cut to her foot, said Diaz.

Police have identified the woman pinned as 28-year-old Brittany Alyse Lucas, of Morehead City. She was alert when first-responders came to the scene. Lucas was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. Police told NewsChannel 12 Thursday night that she was in serious condition.

The three others were taken to Carteret General Hospital. Police said they appeared to be okay.

A police report stated the estimated cost of damage is $60,000.

The operators of HappyCakes Cupcakery won $10,000 last year on the Food Network's "Cupcake Wars."
