Deputies: 2 men shot after fight reported at Pitt County club
Deputies said they are searching for whoever shot and injured two men in Pitt County early Monday morning.
According to the Pitt County Sheriff's Office, deputies first received a call of shots being fired and a fight at the Copper Kettle Lounge & Club at 600 Highway 903, north of Greenville.
Shortly after, deputies responded to a call from a home in the Forbes Mobile Home Park on on Elaina Drive, investigators said. Two men were found shot at about 2 a.m. It was unclear whether the victims were shot at the mobile home park or somewhere else, said deputies.
William Cherry lives at the mobile home park.
"Me and my baby's mother were laying down and some guys came and knocked on door and said call 911," he said.
Cherry said the loud pounding at his door let him know something serious was going on.
"There was a lot of guys out here. Two of em' laying and the one in the back seat. He was gasping for air so it was kinda scary," Cherry said.
Neither man lived at the mobile home park, but were looking for a safe place, according to the Sheriff's Office. Both victims were taken to Vidant Medical Center and were expected to recover.
Deputies later stopped by the Sheetz convenience store on North Memorial Drive to talk with customers there, because it is a known gathering place for club patrons after the Copper Kettle closes Sunday nights.
Deputies have not made any arrests in the shooting, but are questioning several people, investigators said.
