ONSLOW COUNTY - Deputies arrest two people after discovering a suspected methamphetamine lab on Sunday.
Jonathan Eugene Bowman, 31, of Richlands, and Stacy Lynn Hill, 36, of Jacksonville, were charged by the Onslow County Sheriff's Office with manufacturing methamphetamine, maintaining a dwelling for controlled substance, and felony conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine.
Deputies executed a search warrant at a home located in the Plum Point housing subdivision in Jacksonville. That's just off of Maplehurst Road.
"I was very surprised it was a meth lab," said a neighbor who wished to remain anonymous. "It was obvious to me that it was something major when I saw one of the agents in the back with a Hazmat suit on."
Agents from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, Clandestine Lab Response Team, and a chemist from the North Carolina Crime Lab responded to the scene, according to the Onslow County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators said an active methamphetamine lab was located in the outbuilding.
Family members said that three children, belonging to Hill, were living in the home located a few feet away from the outbuilding. "I feel sorry for the kids that were in that house," said the neighbor.
Deputies said additional charges will be filed on Hill and Bowman this week for Child Abuse and Neglect.
Investigators said that just prior to their arrests, it appeared that Hill and Bowman were in the process of manufacturing more methamphetamine.
The home is owned and occupied by HIll's family members. Neighbors say, prior to this incident, there was never any trouble with Hill's family. "She's been a great neighbor, I've been living here for about 35 years now, and I've never had any problems with her," said the neighbor.
The Onslow County Sheriff's Office stated that there's been an increase of Methamphetamine Clan Labs in our area. Officials warn that the labs are very dangerous and pose a threat to anyone that comes into contact with it as well as the environment. The chemicals and other materials are mixed together and become very explosive.
Bowman and Hill are currently both held under a $175,000 secured bond each.
