Troopers: Vehicle kills man suspected in earlier hit-and-run
A suspect in a hit-and-run crash was killed by another vehicle an hour later, the Highway Patrol said.
According to troopers, 61-year-old Jerry Grier, of Richlands, was walking along Highway 258 near Poney Farm Road in Jacksonville because his car had broken down. But at about 10 p.m. Friday, a passing van hit Grier, who died at the scene, investigators said.
The victim was suspected in a hit-and-run that happened an hour before he was killed, said troopers. Grier allegedly rear-ended a car on Firetower Road and drove away from the scene.
According to troopers, they realized Grier was involved in that hit-and-run after they inspected his vehicle.
At last check, the driver of the van that killed Grier had not been charged.
