NEWPORT - A driver was charged in a two-vehicle wreck Monday evening that sent several people to a hospital, the Highway Patrol said.
Lisa Johnson, of Havelock, was charged with failure to burn headlamps and unsafe tires, for the wreck that happened at the intersection of Highway 70 and Masontown Rd. in Newport. Troopers got the call at about 6:05 p.m.
Johnson was driving her Pontiac-type vehicle west on Highway 70, towards Havelock, with only her parking lights on, said Trooper Brad Porter. That was when a van, making a left turn off Masontown Road onto Highway 70, collided with Johnson's vehicle.
Johnson, along with another adult and two young children, were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Trooper Porter said.
One adult in the other vehicle was also taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Trooper Porter said. The second adult inside that van was treated at the scene.
