Trooper: Elderly couple hospitalized after wrong-way crash

CRAVEN COUNTY - Highway Patrol says a Ford Escort was going the wrong way down Highway 70 when he hit a GMC Terrain head on.

The driver of the Escort was Kevin Mobley, 35. The Terrain was driven by Dwight Lamm and his wife Rachel, both 68, of Nash County.

Both cars ended up in a ditch.

Trooper J.H. Midgette says the damage to the cars is not extensive, so he expects that the crash is not life-threatening.

Mobley is in Carolina East Hospital in New Bern. The Lamms are in Carteret General Hospital. There is no word on the condition of any of the people involved in the crash.

Troopers don't know why Mobley was going the wrong way. He will be charged with driving the wrong way, but at this point, they don't know if drugs or alcohol were involved, so other charges may be coming.
