North Carolina House Speaker Thom Tillis will be on the ballot in November in a contest against Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan.
Tillis coasted to a win in the Republican primary against seven candidates, including tea party rivals. He received 222,238 votes, or 45.69 percent, according to final results.
His closest challenger, Greg Brannon, received 132,013 votes (27.14 percent), followed by Mark Harris with 85,393 votes (17.56 percent).
Tillis had substantial support including the backing of the National Rifle Association and former presidential hopeful Mitt Romney.
