BAYBORO, PAMLICO COUNTY - It was almost to capacity inside the Pamlico County Courthouse on Tuesday night.
Inside, concerned community members wanting to hear from the candidates who are running for Pamlico County Sheriff in the November 2014 election.
The three candidates: Current Pamlico County Sheriff, Billy Sawyer, Jr.; Martin County Deputy, Chis Davis; and Former Pamlico County Emergency Manger Coordinator, David Spruill.
The three candidates answered questions that were addressed to them from moderator Jeff Aydelette, publisher of the County Compass. The questions asked were submitted from members sitting in the audience. Each candidate had two minutes to respond to each question. The forum lasted for about an hour and a half.
Some of the topics discussed included the sheriff's office budget, the need for increased patrol on the streets, and gun permit regulations.
Community members said they showed up in order to be informed about their candidates, and will use Tuesday night's forum as a way to help them make a decision come voting season.
The first vote will come in May, as Sawyer and Spruill will go head to head in the democratic primary. The winner of that primary race will then go against unopposed Republican candidate Chris Davis in the November general election.
