KINSTON - A teenager is dead and another victim remains in the hospital after a shooting in Kinston.
The shooting was reported on the 900 block of E. King Street Wednesday afternoon.
Kinston police said two victims, Dajuquon "DJ" Poole, 19, and Tiran Farris, 28 were found at the scene with gunshot wounds.
Poole was later pronounced dead at Vidant Medical Center.
Farris was taken to the hospital but he has since been released, according to hospital officials.
"I don't know what really happened I just know my baby gone and he won't be coming back no time soon," DJ's mother, Sarah Poole said.
The family told NewsChannel 12 DJ had just left their home thirty-minutes before he found shot. They do not know where he was going.
"He was trying to run away from the scene from my understanding," his sister, Shontelle said.
The family said DJ had made some mistakes in the past but he was turning his life around. They said about two months ago, DJ was stabbed in the stomach in a nightclub.
"He was a good person, a fun person, a loving person. He laughed a lot. He was a good person and I really don't feel like he should have had to go through that," Shontelle said.
DJ's family is not sure when a funeral will take place but if you would like to donate to the family or send flowers please send them to the following address: 614 Thompson Street, Kinston, NC.
Investigators are following up on all leads. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Kinston Police "Tips Line" 252-939-4020 or Cmdr. Jennifer Canady 252-939-3225.
