CRAVEN COUNTY -

Troopers have identified the teen injured in a rollover wreck in Craven County over the weekend.

According to the Highway Patrol, 16-year-old Kaitlyn Smith was hurt in the wreck on N.C. 55 near Cove City at about 8:33 a.m. Sunday.

Troopers initially said Smith was critically injured. But an official at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville told NewsChannel 12 Tuesday morning that Smith has been upgraded to fair condition.

The 16-year-old's Hyundai was traveling westbound on N.C. 55 when it ran off the right side of the road, troopers said. The vehicle then hit a concrete culvert underneath a private driveway on the 6400 block of Highway 55, less than 8 miles northeast of Cove City.

The Hyundai continued over the driveway and hit a tree north of the roadway, before overturning and coming to rest on its roof, according to investigators.

There is no word on what caused the wreck.
