SWANSBORO - A 15-year-old high school student is charged for allegedly making a Facebook threat to an Onslow County middle school.
According to deputies, the 15-year-old suspect, who is not being identified because of her age, admitted to making the threat to Swansboro Middle School on Monday, Jan. 28. The suspect is a student at Northside High School.
The Jacksonville Daily News reported that the threat in question warned everyone at Swansboro Middle School to wear bulletproof vests, and that the person making the threat was going to going to commit suicide at the school, or get jailed.
"There's nothing funny about threatening a school full of kids," said Sharyn Phillips." Especially after what just happened in Connecticut."
Phillips' 13 year old son Branden Hamilton is a 6th grader at the middle schools.
Classes at Swansboro Middle School continued, but with more police presence. No shooting actually took place.
On Friday, an Onslow County detective confronted the 15-year-old suspect, based on evidence collected in the investigation. The teen then confessed to making the threat, deputies said.
Phillips says she's having a hard time believing that the suspect is a young girl.
"I find that odd because little girls don't usually do those types of things," said Phillips.
Phillips says she is relieved to know someone been arrested, but still has a lot of unanswered questions
I've hear several different rumors and frankly I don't know what to believe I'm just waiting for law enforcement to come out with the final word to say what really happened.
The 15-year-old will be charged with making a false threat concerning mass violence on educational property. According to deputies, three or four students may be involved in the case.
No other information was released on the investigation.
