MOUNT OLIVE - Police said a man forced his way into a Mount Olive home on Franklin Street around 3:30 a.m. on New Year's Eve and held a gun to an 8-year-old's head.
The robber demanded money from the child's mother as he held the young girl at gunpoint, police said. According to police reports, the gun was discharged into a bedroom wall during the incident. The gunman made off with the woman's purse filled with cash and gift cards.
Police said a similar incident happened at a house around the corner from the Franklin Street address. They said an armed gunman entered a home on Johnson Street and demanded money and narcotics. An altercation broke out and the gun was discharged in the living room. The robber got away with an undisclosed amount of cash and narcotics.
The suspect has been identified as Shawnquel Futrelle. Wayne County deputies said Futrelle was arrested Friday morning at the Econolodge Inn in Goldsboro. Futrelle was served with felony warrants from the Mount Olive Police Department for first degree burglary, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Futrelle was also served with warrants from the Goldsboro Police Department for assault on a female and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. Futrelle is the Wayne County Jail under a $500,000.00 secured bond.
