NEW BERN - A beautiful Sunday on tap for Eastern NC as high pressure has brought a lot of dry air to the region. Expect mostly sunny skies, with an east to northeast winds around 5-10mph. Some moisture in the mid-levels of the atmosphere will help to pop up a few clouds by the afternoon. We are tracking a weak cold front that will swing through Monday afternoon.
Expect Monday to start off with mostly clear skies, clouds will increase through the day. With the dry air already in place, not expecting a whole lot of rain with this system, however southern and coastal regions may see some spotty showers by the late afternoon to evening time frame. Once this front moves through, we stay pretty quiet through the rest of the week with temperatures near normal.
TROPICAL: In the tropics we have Hurricane Ingrid. Ingrid upgraded to a Cat 1 hurricane Saturday afternoon. As of the 8am NHC advisory, Ingrid had winds near 85mph and was slowly moving toward the northwest at 3 to 7mph. Ingrid is expected to turn west later today and is expected to strengthen into a cat 2 storm before making landfall just north of Tampico, Mexico on Monday. Indgrid could dump 10-15inches of rain along the Mexican coastline with isolated areas seeing up to 25inches.
Humberto has weakened into a Post Tropical Cyclone. Storm continues to produce a disorganized showers and thunderstorms, however a low level circulation can still be detected. Humberto is about 1000 miles southwest of the Azores. Humberto will continue on a northwest track today before curving back to the north and east. There is a good possibility that Humberto could gain some strength and form back into a tropical storm over the next 48hours. Both Ingrid and Humberto however, will have no impact on Eastern North Carolina.
