Students in Onslow County built a custom remote car race track to honor a 15-year-old student who lost his battle with cancer.
Jacob Baltosser was a student at the Onslow County Learning Center. He died in December 2013 of Rhabdomyosarcoma.
While Jacob was receiving treatment at Duke University Hospital, he would go to Northwest Mall and play with their indoor remote car race track to take his mind off his illness.
Students at his school built a custom race track to be used by students at Thompson Early Childhood Center, Queens Creek Elementary School, and the Classroom Without Walls. Students wrote a grant to Lowe's to get the materials needed to build the track.
The race track was dedicated to Baltosser on Friday. Students will learn about designing and maintaining the track.
