Students on the run after trio of attempted armed robberies

PITT COUNTY - The Pitt County Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday night the arrest of two 18-year-old students who had allegedly been on the run since Sunday after three attempted armed robberies.

The Pitt County Sheriff's Office, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshall Service, arresed Dashaun Persons and Fabion Jackson, both 18, on Wednesday night.  Both are charged with three counts of Conspiracy to Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon; two counts of First Degree Burglary; and one count of Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon.  Bond amounts have not yet been set.

Officials say Jackson is a student at Pitt Community College.

Deputies say two other suspects, Christopher Hall and Darius Hemphill, were arrested the night of the attempted robberies.

Residences on Billy Loop and Dusty Lane, in the Belvoir area, were targeted in the attempted robberies, according to a sheriff's spokesperson.

The first attempt took place on Billy Loop just before 10 p.m. on Sunday. Cain Palacios-Estrada says he was sitting in his car after a family party.

"He never thought that four black guys were gonna come and assault him," said Estrada, with the help of a translator.

Estrada says the men demanded money, but Estrada did not have any. He says one of them then hit him repeatedly over the head with a pistol. Estrada was taken to Vidant Greenville, where he had staples put into his head.

Minutes later, officials say the four suspects attempted another armed robbery on Dusty Lane. Sebastain Hernandez says his sister's boyfriend went to the door after the suspects knocked, but he and Hernandez's father were able to close the door before the suspects could get inside.

Hernandez says his sister and nephew fled to the back of the home as the suspects ran behind neighboring homes.

"She was scared she, they took off back there in the room, they, my nephew couldn't sleep that night. He thought they were gonna come back," said Hernandez.

Officials say the four suspects then attempted another armed robbery on Dusty Lane. Deputies responded to the area, and were able to track down the vehicle the four suspects were traveling in. The suspects then tried to get away on foot.

Christopher Hall was caught quickly. Darius Hemphill was tracked down by a K-9 officer.
