PITT COUNTY -

The annual Special Olympics Spring Games in Pitt County kicked off Wednesday morning.

Athletes from across Pitt County competed at J.H. Rose High School.  Events included track races ranging from 50 meters to 400 meters, a softball throwing contest, wheelchair races and a race for the visually impaired.

Volunteers say this is a great opportunity for the kids to come together.  More than 200 athletes, ages seven and older, participated in the event.

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training for children and adults with disabilities.
