Nobody was injured when shots were fired during an attempted robbery in Kinston Tuesday night, according to officials.

The incident happened around 10:25 p.m. at the Marathon Store at 2001 North Queen Street.

Kinston Police say a black male entered the store, armed with a silver handgun, and fired a shot into the ceiling while demanding money.

They say the suspect also fired a round through the front plate glass window of the store. The suspect, who police describe as about 5'7, 130 lbs., wearing a black hat, white shirt and black pants, left on foot without getting any cash.

Kinston Police say the incident is still under investigation.
