Sheriff's deputies help kids get ready to head back to school

GREENVILLE, PITT COUNTY - Thirty children are getting help to prepare for back to school time, all thanks to the Pitt County Sheriff's Office.

Campers from the department's summer program went shopping with deputies Wednesday.  They picked up school supplies at a Walmart in Greenville.  The sheriff's office was awarded a $1,000 grant from Walmart last month.

Lieutenant Kip Gaskins with the Pitt County Sheriff's Office says, "Walmart was good enough to make a donation to our summer camp, we're coming back to Walmart to help the children spend that money, to help the children get a good a start back to school with some school supplies."

Camper Stephen Brown found a lot of the supplies he needs, "book bag, red pencils and also paper, composition books and all the school supplies we need."

The sheriff's office holds this summer camp to help the kids and build a relationship with the community.
