School shooting sparks stricter gun law debate

New Bern - Could the latest shooting  be the tipping point into stricter gun laws?
During a press conference Friday, President Barak Obama expressed immediate concerns.

"As a country, we have been through this too many times," said the President. "We're going to have to come together and take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this, regardless of the politics".

In February, North Carolina joined other states in the Right to Carry Law.
According to the NRA website, currently there are no state licensing requirements to possess a rifle, shotgun, or handgun. It is unlawful for any person under 18 to possess or carry a handgun
Bill Wishon, a firearm trainer an consultant in New Bern, believes guns aren't the problem.

"The laws are in affect. it's the people who don't obey the laws that are the problem," said Wishon."We don't look at the other side of the picture. We don't see that so many people depend on their firearms for safety."

Wishon blames a lack of focus on mental health issue for the recent violence. Adding that despite the laws, people will continue to do bad things.
