Race helps raise money to help law enforcement officers

BUXTON, DARE COUNTY - The 3rd annual "Run in the Sand" race is set to take place this weekend.

The 5k road and beach race benefits The North Carolina Law Enforcement Assistance Program (NCLEAP) and Mother's Against Drunk Driving (M.A.D.D.).

The race is on April 5th and starts in Buxton at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse at 9:30 a.m.

If you don't want to do the 5k race, there's also a 1 mile "Fun Run and Walk" and a "MADD Dash" for kids under the age of 12.

The race was founded in 2011 to support all law enforcement branches. NCLEAP helps law enforcement officers overcome tragedies by providing training through critical stress management seminars.

You can sign up for the race up to 30 minutes before race time.
