Public hearing for new town homes on Radio Island put on hold
Plans for a new town home development on Radio Island are in the works. A public hearing at Tuesday’s Morehead city town council meeting about the project has been postponed. This came after officials and the home owners association of the condos next door to the development site met.
Olde Town Yacht Club is in the same gated area as the undeveloped site. Crystal Holdings LLC, a company under Doug Brady and Jim Bailey, are developing the plans for the project. They also developed Olde Town Yacht Club but under a different name, Oceanside Yacht Club Development Inc.
The current plan includes about 67 new town homes, and an extension of Moore Creek for wet slips to dock boats.
In order to build this proposed plan, developers need to create at least 211 parking spaces. To provide the amount of parking necessary, current plans would remove grassy areas and some parking lots from Olde Towne Yacht Club.
Olde Towne Yacht Club declined to make any comment at this time about the project.
Brady said he understands the concerns coming from residents at Olde Towne Yacht Club. He said some changes to the current plan are in the works, and he hopes to reach a compromise.
Planning and Inspections Department Director, Linda Staab said details for a revised plan could be completed as early as the next town council meeting.
