Prison dogs used to hunt down escaped inmate

NORTH WILKESBORO - Prisons dog handlers and staff from Wilkes Correctional Center caught inmate Joey Carrico at approximately 5:20 Thursday morning in North Wilkesboro, according to officials. 

Wilkes CC staff discovered Carrico had escaped at about 8 p.m. Wednesday and immediately initiated escape procedures.

Correction staff were assisted by the Wilkes County Sheriff's Office and the North Wilkesboro Police Department in catching Carrico this morning without incident.

Carrico has been transported to segregation at Caldwell Correctional Center. He will now face escape charges.

Carrico, 35, is serving two years for misdemeanor driving while intoxicated. He was due for release in February 2013.
