GREENVILLE, PITT COUNTY - Greenville Police are looking for the person who broke into RJ's Famous Chicken & Barbeque restaurant and stole money from a game machine.
The incident happened early Sunday morning.
It's the second break-in in the last month.
On November 15th, a thief broke into the restaurant through a side door and stole $1,300 from the safe and coins from the gumball machine.
In this latest case, the suspect went through an exhaust vent in the back of the restaurant and broke into the Pac-Man game machine. The owner, Randy Rolla, said the suspect got away with a few hundred dollars in coins.
"Been here 7 years and never had any problems and now twice in one month …It just seems like it's getting worse and worse. The closer we get to the holidays people just get more desperate," Rolla said.
Rolla said the police missed the suspect by only four minutes. The thief left through the back door, which set off the alarm system.
One customer we talked with said he eats at RJ's almost every day and something like this shouldn't keep happening.
"I don't understand it. Hopefully they'll catch the people if they keep doing it enough they'll be caught," Rex Wainright said.
For Rolla, his mission is simple: keep the safe, safe.
"The first guy was able to break the safe so I went and bought a new safe and this guy was able to break the handle off the safe," he said.
So, to prevent this from happening again, Rolla has now installed a stainless steel cage around the safe. He hopes this will finally keep the thieves at bay.
No arrests have been made in either case so far. If anyone has information on either case, you are asked to contact the Greenville Police Department or CrimeStoppers.
