Police search for suspect in Greenville sweepstakes armed robbery

GREENVILLE, PITT COUNTY - Police said they are searching for an armed man who robbed a sweepstakes and office supply business in Greenville early Tuesday morning.

According to investigators, the robber entered the H&L Business Centre at 1501 Evans St. at 3:50 a.m. Tuesday and demanded money. The man then took an unknown amount of cash and ran on foot towards Howell Street, police said.

The suspect is described as a slender, light-skinned black man who is about 6 feet tall with hazel eyes. He was wearing a dark hoodie and coat with yellow and gold trim, said investigators.

Three customers were inside the business at the time of the robbery, but they were not hurt, according to the store manager, Gregory Richardson.

This is the third armed robbery at this business in the last year and a half. The last time the store was held up was in December 2012.

"Very frustrating because you know we are here to provide a service to the community. We have people here who want to enjoy you know internet time, enjoy the atmosphere. And they're not looking to have someone come in with a gun and hold them up," Richardson said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Greenville Police Department at 252-329-4315.
