GREENVILLE, PITT COUNTY - Police said they are investigating an attempted armed robbery outside the Greenville Mall.

According to investigators, the would-be robber, armed with a knife, approached a woman as she was walking to her car in the parking lot outside Pier 1 Imports. It happened at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The suspect demanded money, but was not able to get any, police said. He then ran towards a Checkers Drive-in.

Police are describing the suspect as a black male wearing a gray hooded coat.

The victim was not hurt, said investigators.

Anyone with information is asked to call Greenville Police at 252-329-4315.

Investigators said they are looking into whether this incident is related to an armed robbery at the parking lot of the University Commons Shopping Center off Evans Road Tuesday night. During that incident, the robber held a knife to the victim's throat and made off with the victim's cash and cell phone, said police.
