GREENVILLE, PITT COUNTY - Police are looking for a man they said robbed a restaurant Monday night.
The incident happened just after 10 p.m. at the Rucker Johns restaurant on South Memorial Drive in the Winterville-Greenville area. Greenville Police said the suspect, armed with a handgun, came in through the back door of the business as staff was cleaning. The suspect is described as a man with shoulder-length dreadlocks.
Police say there was an undisclosed amount of money taken in the robbery.
"The Greenville Police Department, the Winterville Police and the Pitt County Sheriff's Department were here on scene within minutes ...They secured the area right away. Had the dogs out trying to find the person," director of operations Tim Esenbock said.
Esenbock said the dogs were able to pick up a scent because some money was dropped in the parking lot. However, at some point, the scent trail was lost.
"The police department has been very good with us on this and reassured us they are doing their patrol in this area fully, all the time," he said.
Esenbock said while he's thankful none of his employees were harmed in the robbery, he said everyone is still shaken up by what happened.
"It's just hard. It's not fun. And it's bad for the community, of course, to feel this way. But, it's something we've all heard about but when it happens to you it's a little more personal," Esenbock said.
Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to contact the Greenville Police Department or CrimeStoppers.
