NEW BERN, CRAVEN COUNTY -

Authorities arrested a Craven County mother who allegedly dropped off and left her 1- and 2-year-old children at Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern.

Mirriah Robinson, 27, is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile for allegedly leaving her daughter and son at the hospital.

Authorities arrested Robinson, of the Cove City area, last week.

North Carolina law says an infant up to seven days old may be left in a safe place, like a hospital.

Robinson, reached by phone, hung up on a reporter.

Police did not report any injuries to the children.

The children’s grandparents now have temporary custody of the children, a family member said.

The New Bern Police Department and the Craven County Department of Social Services are investigating, authorities said.

Robinson is due in court next month.
