Kinston Police arrest teen for armed robberies hours apart
Kinston Police have arrested a suspect for two armed robberies at convenience stores just hours apart.
Tymone Shyeem Murphy, 17, was arrested on Tuesday, investigators said. He is being held in jail under a $200,000 secured bond on two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon.
According to Kinston Police, Murphy first robbed a Dollar General, located at 2008 W. Vernon Ave., at about 6:25 p.m. on May 1. The suspect was carrying a handgun in his waist band when he jumped the counter and took off with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.
On the same day at about 11:08 p.m., Murphy allegedly held up a Kangaroo Express on Highway 258 North. Officers were told that the suspect used a handgun to threaten a clerk. Murphy then escaped on foot with an undisclosed amount of money, according to police.
Investigators said in both cases, no one was injured.
Murphy was already being at the Pitt County Juvenile Detention Center for an unrelated incident.
