Police said they believe one man robbed two hotels in two counties over the weekend.
The first robbery happened at about 8:15 a.m. Saturday at the Holiday Inn Express on Branchside Drive in Havelock, police said.
According to witnesses, the robber, with a knife in his hand, jumped the front counter and opened the cash register. The man took an undisclosed amount of money, jumped back over the counter, and escaped in a vehicle, possibly a white SUV, police said.
No injuries were reported.
The second robbery happened at about 10:46 p.m. Sunday at the Mainstay Suites Hotel on U.S. 17 North in Jacksonville, said police.
Investigators said the robber entered the hotel's reception area and demanded cash from the clerk, all while brandishing a knife. The robber took an undisclosed amount of cash and escaped in a white or silver Mercury Mountaineer SUV, said Jacksonville Police.
The clerk was not hurt, said investigators.
Police said they believe the same man was responsible for both robberies. The suspect is described as a a white male who is between 5-foot-10 to 6-feet tall and about 250 pounds.
During the Havelock robbery, he was seen wearing blue jeans, a gray shirt and a black long-sleeve shirt around his head. Witnesses also reported he wore glasses, said police. During the robbery in Jacksonville, the suspect was wearing a green military-style field mask, glasses and gloves, as well as a head wrap and tan boots, according to investigators.
Police said they believe the suspect has an affiliation with the military. Investigators are working with the NCIS on this case.
