A man is in custody charged with stealing a motorcycle and leading authorities on a chase.
Jacksonville Police were called to the scene just before 3 a.m. Sunday morning for a report of a motorcycle theft in progress at Charleston Place apartments. Officials said when they arrived they saw someone driving a motorcycle matching the description given at the intersection of Western Boulevard and U.S. 17.
Authorities said the driver, 22-year-old Justin Pickett, then led police on a chase. During the chase, police said Pickett threw his helmet at the police car.

Pickett was taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville but was later released into police custody.
He is charged with felony conspiracy, failure to heed blue lights and siren, resist, obstruct, delay, flee and elude arrest with motor vehicle, reckless driving to endanger, red light violations, felony possession of stolen goods, no motorcycle endorsement, motorcycle helmet violation, larceny of motor vehicle, speeding violations and injury to personal property.
