A man from Eastern Carolina was one of two people who died after apparently overdosing during a concert in Maryland, according to police.
Police said 20-year-old Tyler Fox Viscardi was pronounced dead at a hospital Friday.
Viscardi grew up in Pitt County and went to Arendell Parrott Academy in Kinston, according to his LinkedIn page. He was a student at the University of Maryland, College Park at the time of his death.
Viscardi died of a suspected overdose following Friday's "Mad Decent Block Party" music festival at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Md., said Howard County Police.
Viscardi's family released a statement calling the incident a "terrible mishap," saying Viscardi unknowingly drank drugs mixed with a water bottle.
"This tragic accident has taken Tyler from us. He will always be in our hearts," said his family.
Police said Sunday that a second person, a 17-year-old from Woodbridge in northern Virginia, also died. A police statement released online said the teen's name was being withheld at the family's request.
The 17-year-old and Viscardi did not appear to know each other, investigators said.
Police said they are awaiting toxicology results on the two deaths.
Authorities said about 20 people were taken to the hospital late Friday, many with drug-related symptoms.
Police said they issued 50 citations for underage drinking during the concert. Officers also made three arrests, two for assault and a third for possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
