Police: Man fires shot, robs 2 in New Bern

NEW BERN, CRAVEN COUNTY - Police said they are looking for an armed man who fired a shot and robbed two people in New Bern.

According to the New Bern Police Department, the robbery happened on the 1600 block of Queen Anne Lane. Officers responded at about 9:54 p.m. Thursday.

Two residents at the home told police they were on their porch when a masked man came from the rear of house. The masked man, armed with a gun, then hit one of the victims in the face and fired a shot into a wall, police said.

A neighbor heard the gunshot.

"Something like crosses your mind, did someone get shot, or was it a firecracker?" Julian Lewis asked. "You never know. But you hear stuff like that around here all the time anyways."

The robber was able to get away with money, police told NewsChannel 12. At last check, no arrest had been made. The victims described the suspect as a black male, but no other description was released.

The victim who was hit in the face suffered a minor abrasion and refused medical attention, police said.
