Police make arrests in armed robbery case near ECU

GREENVILLE - Police arrested and charged two Greenville men less than a week after the armed robbery suspects were caught on a downtown camera.

Police arrested Dontavius Cox, 20, and Alton Evely, 20.  Both suspects were from Greenville, according to police.  They were taken into custody over the weekend.  

Investigators arrested the men after a robbery was reported on East 5th Street during the early morning hours Tuesday, January 29th. 

Both suspects are charged with one count each of robbery with a dangerous weapon.
Both suspects face prior charges, according to a police report.

The incident happened before 3:00 a.m. Tuesday near 505 East 5th Street.

Two suspects approached a male walking from the downtown area, according to police.  Officials say the suspects got away with $35 in cash and a cell phone.  The victim told police the men followed him.

Surveillance video obtained by police show the two men following not just the victim.  According to police, these suspects are also depicted stalking other potential victims around the nightclubs downtown.

No injures were reported. The suspects are still on the run, according to police.
