GREENVILLE, PITT COUNTY -

The Greenville Police Department is investigating two armed robberies on South Memorial Drive Sunday night.

The first robbery happened at Platinum Sweepstakes at 2143 S. Memorial Dr. at 8:45 p.m. Sunday, said investigators.

Police said the robber had a handgun and entered the business, then ordered the clerk to open the safe. The man fled the business on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect is described as a 5-foot-7 black male wearing all black and a white T-shirt covering his face, said investigators.

The second robbery happened at a WilcoHess gas station at 3000 S. Memorial Dr. at 10:53 p.m. Sunday, said police.

Investigators said the robber, armed with a handgun, entered the business and took cash, a pack of Newport cigarettes, some Black & Mild cigars, and several match books. The man then fled on foot, police said.

The suspect is described as a thin male between 5-foot-6 to 6 feet tall, and was wearing a red mask and black hat, said investigators.

No injuries were reported in either robbery. Police said they do not believe the robberies are connected, but the investigation is ongoing.
