Police: Dollar General employees leaving work robbed at gunpoint

NEWPORT, CARTERET COUNTY - Police said they are searching for a gunman who robbed two Dollar General employees as they were leaving work in Carteret County.

According to Newport Police, the armed robbery happened at the Dollar General at 711 Highway 70 Sunday.

The two employees told investigators they were leaving work when a man, armed with a small caliber handgun, came up to them in the parking lot and demanded their purses and cash.

The two women gave the suspect what he wanted and he fled on foot towards Bayberry Road, said police.

The victims were not injured during the robbery.

The suspect is described as a white male wearing a black ski mask, hooded camouflage coat, and faded blue jeans.
