Police: Corrections officer sneaks drugs into prison
Investigators said a corrections officer was caught in the act trying to bring drugs into a Bertie County prison.
According to Windsor Police, Richard Evans tried to sneak drugs into the Bertie Correctional Institution. Investigators did not say when the alleged crime happened.
Windsor officers worked with the Robersonville Police Department to arrest Evans. He was being held at the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail under a $75,000 bond.
The suspect had worked at the Bertie Correctional Institution for about a year, officials said. Before that, he worked as a Robersonville Police officer, but was fired after 90 days.
