Police said two men have been charged with attempted murder for a pair of shootings in Ayden, but one suspect is still on the run.
According to Ayden Police Chief Barry Stanley, 18-year-old Acor Jones, of Grifton, and 20-year-old Brandon Bryant, of Ayden are each being jailed under a $6 million bond.
Chief Stanley said the first shooting , a drive-by, happened at about 6 p.m. Wednesday on Allen Drive. Shots were fired from a car at a home, Chief Stanley said. No injuries were reported in that incident.
The second shooting happened at about 10 p.m. Wednesday less than a mile away from the first shooting. Police said a man in his 20s was shot in the shoulder at the intersection of East Barwick Street and Williams Street. He was found lying on the road.
The victim, who has not been identified, was taken to Vidant Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries, Chief Stanley told NewsChannel 12.
Police said they believed the two shootings were related. Witnesses were able to identify one of the suspects in a photo lineup and provided details about the suspects' car, according to investigators.
Police later found the suspects' Pontiac Firebird outside a home on Charles Street in Grifton. Officers tried to make contact with the people inside the home, but they did not cooperated, police said.
Investigators were concerned because the home is next to a day care, said Chief Stanley.
The Greenville Police Department's Emergency Response Team was called in. They were able to successfully make contact with all eight people inside the home at about 6 a.m. Thursday, police said.
Jones and Bryant were arrested and have each been charged with attempted first-degree murder and shooting into an occupied dwelling. But Chief Stanley said police are still looking for a third suspect.
Chief Stanley said investigators believe the shootings were not random, and were most likely drug-related.
