GREENVILLE, PITT COUNTY - Deputies arrested a Raleigh man in Greenville for allegedly keeping a teen as a prostitute.
Tyrone McKeith Robinson, 27, was arrested at 450 Moye Boulevard at about 3:21 a.m. Thursday. Deputies said Robinson trafficked an out-of-state girl when she was younger than 18 years old. But investigators did not say where or when the alleged trafficking took place.
Deputies said they were led to the suspect thanks to a tip from someone who the victim shared her predicament to.
"She reached out to someone and did not know how to get out of the situation, was afraid to get out of the situation," said Capt. Paula Dance of the Pitt County Sheriff's Office. "We won't tolerate this type of activity in Pitt County. When we receive those tips, we aggressively work those tips. That is something that takes a priority for us."
The victim is currently 18 years old, according to investigators.
"A lot of times, they're scared, they feel unsafe and they have every right to feel that way," said Chris Smith, president and co-founder of Restore One, a non-profit devoted to battling sex trafficking.
Restore One helped the Sheriff's Office find a safe place for the victim to stay following her rescue.
"It's really the rapid response team and other organizations coming together in unity to find a safe place to put them," said Smith.
Robinson has been charged with human trafficking, sexual servitude and solicitation of prostitution. He was jailed on a $50,000 bond.
